Low-clearance and low-profile vehicle towing addresses vehicles with minimal ground clearance – sports cars, lowered vehicles, and performance cars with aggressive front-end designs – where standard loading ramps and towing equipment risk scraping the front splitter, air dam, or undercarriage during pickup. This is a technique issue as much as an equipment one, since even the right trailer can cause damage if the operator doesn't load carefully.
This is essential for any vehicle sitting noticeably lower than standard ride height, sports and performance cars with front splitters or low air dams, and any vehicle where the owner has previously had scraping or clearance issues during a tow or has specifically lowered the vehicle as a performance or styling modification. Standard flatbed loading angles that work fine for a typical sedan can easily catch and damage a low front end without the right equipment and approach.
We use flatbed trailers equipped with low-angle or extended loading ramps specifically designed to reduce the approach angle during loading, which is what actually prevents scraping rather than just being careful with a standard ramp. We often use loading ramp extensions or specific positioning techniques to further reduce clearance risk on particularly low vehicles. We communicate with the owner beforehand about the vehicle's specific clearance points, since owners of modified or low vehicles usually know exactly where the vulnerable areas are. Once loaded, we secure the vehicle with appropriate tie-down points that don't add stress to delicate front-end components.
Cost is generally comparable to standard flatbed towing, with distance as the primary factor, though the specialized equipment and technique are part of what prevents costly damage during the tow itself. Vehicle owners in Broad Brook, CT with lowered or modified vehicles often specifically request low-clearance-equipped trailers when scheduling.
